5 reasons Apple MacBook Pro fails to excite

Apple launched its new range of MacBook Pro laptops at an event in California last night. The new laptops sport, what the company calls, a revolutionary Touch Bar that brings touch functionality right to your keyboard. There's a usual specs upgradation too. But is all this enough to excite? Not really.

Here are 5 reasons Apple MacBook Pro fails to excite:

With prices starting as high as Rs 1,29,000 and going all the way up to Rs 2,41,900, the new models are expensive than the previous-generation MacBooks. No doubt, the company has its sights set on the premium category, but the big price jump is surely a downer for many eyeing to buy the new Apple laptops.

Can't connect 'traditional peripherals'

Apple has done away with all kinds of ports – HDMI, USB, older Thunderbolt sockets. And instead the company has introduced up to four Thunderbolt 3 ports depending on the variant you choose to buy. However, addition of USB type-C means that traditional USB peripherals won’t work with the MacBook Pro without adapters.

A user would only be able to use the ports and type-C cables with them when they attach a separate adaptor to connect the cable to HDMI ports on the corresponding display mediums.
Touchscreen, really?

Touchscreen, really?

Yes, there's 'touch functionality' in the keyboard? But what about the screen? At the price tag that Apple's new laptops sport, many other laptops in the segment such as those from Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo and even Micromax come with touchscreens.

In fact, many of the touch-screen models from these companies are priced at almost 40% to 50% lesser than what Apple's latest MacBook Pro's are priced at.
TouchBar, another gimmick?

TouchBar, another gimmick?

With the new MacBook Pro, Apple brings the touch functionality to the keyboards with its TouchBar. The feature integrates with the program running onscreen to provide extra user controls. However, we feel that having them on the screen would’ve been a lot better than cluttering a keyboard which is already jostling for space. Isn’t that so?

The new Apple laptops come with four USB ports but all of them are Thunderbolt 3 or USB Type-C. This means that users will need to buy either a USB 2.0 to USB Type-C cable or a Lightning-to-USB Type-C cable to connect the company's latest iPhones -- iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

For those unaware, the iPhone 7 smartphone come with Lightning-to-USB Type A cable, which would be of no use if you have the new MacBook Pro.
